How to Get Spooky with the Season, Not Your Mental Health

It’s officially spooky season!! You know what that means; lots of fall activities to participate in. While it can be a lot of fun to be festive, it’s important to still keep your mental health in mind. The end of the year is often some of the most stressful months with final deadlines, end of year wrap ups, and lots of holidays approaching. Quite frankly, it gets exhausting. With your mental health in mind, let’s dive into some ways you can still get spoooooookkkkkyyyyy this fall.

How to get spooky this season!

Pumpkin Carving!

Have fun carving a spooky pumpkin either with friends or yourself. Spice it up by roasting the pumpkin seeds with seasonings for a delicious snack. Don’t stress about having the energy to go to a pumpkin patch or having the best design. Get one from a local store or market, throw on a movie, and just enjoy getting to make art!

Costumes!

Planning to go to a costume party, but stressing about finances or time? Keep your costume simple or opt to make your own costume at home using what you already own. Or, borrow pieces from a friend or family member. (Click here for some simple costume ideas!) Remember, you can always decline an event if it it too much for you at the time. Keep your boundaries in place to protect your personal needs.

Watch Some Spooky Movies or TV!

Spooky season is the perfect time to snuggle up on the couch with a fuzzy blanket and binge watch some halloween movies or tv series. This is a great way to let your body sit and rest from your busy schedule. Everyone can benefit from a little time to take their minds off of their work and watch something they enjoy.

Get Outside!

Take in some crisp fall air and sights by getting outside. Fresh air is always great for your mental health. It’s an even better way to step back, take a break from your work, and allow for reset.

Sleep!

Take advantage of the sun setting sooner to get yourself to bed at a reasonable time. A routine nightly schedule and adequate sleep is vital to your mental and physical health.

Enjoy a Seasonal Treat!

What sums up spooky season more that a delicious Pumpkin Spiced Latte or maybe an Apple Crisp Coffee? Remember, it is ok to indulge in a special treat for yourself. Even better, take some time to walk to your local coffee shop. Not only do you get a break for a sweet treat, but you also get a chance to step outside.

No matter how you choose to get spooky this season, keep in mind that you deserve to give yourself some true self love. Your mind deserves a break and rest just as much as your physical body. So get some rest, relax, and get spooky. In the meantime, remember that I love you, and you should love you too!

  1. Getting outside is important to me and my mental health. Listening to the music of nature- wind rustling the leaves, birds chirping and singing, bees buzzing- help calm the spinning in my head.
