Affirmations – An Awesome Daily Habit to Improve Your Mental Health

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me.” Well actually, they can.

If you’re reading this, you’ve most likely thought something negative about yourself at one point in time. Or many times. Maybe, so many times, that you believe these negative words to be true in your core. It’s ok. You are human. BUT, I am here to tell you there is some power in affirmations.

Affirmations are positive phrases that over time help change your subconscious thoughts from negative to positive. Even if you don’t believe them at first.

Step 1: Acknowledge the negative thought pattern.

Step 2: Flip the script and make the negative a positive – say it, read it, write it, speak it

Step 3: Repeat. Repeat. Repeat

It’s pretty straight forward but the key is repetition. Behaviors don’t typically change overnight. You must commit to making the change for yourself. If that’s not enough encouragement for you, then the numerous health benefits should.

Benefits of Affirmations:

  • Increased self-awareness
  • Decreased frequency of negativity
  • Better mood
  • Keeps things in perspective
  • Reduces stress
  • Increased happiness

Examples of Affirmations:

  • I am beautiful
  • My hard work will pay off
  • I am seen
  • I am loved
  • I am worthy
  • I deserve love and happiness
  • I am capable of achieving success

Affirmations should be customized to you. You can create your own. Or find inspiration elsewhere. In order for it to feel achievable, you should find something tangible in your life. Turn that negative thought into a positive one. If at first you don’t believe, repeat until you do. It will get easier and soon enough you will see that positivity resonate throughout your life.

It’s encouraged to repeat affirmations to yourself every day. You can start small with one to help create a new positive habit. Then add more. Every Friday on social media I will be sharing one of my affirmations of the week. Feel free to share yours. Who knows, it might inspire someone else. Remember that I love you, and you should love you too.
